In the academyWhisper To Shout
February 2007
Whisper to Shout was a collaborative effort between School of Music professor and Black Chorus Director, Ollie Watts Davis and myself. In it, individuals of the 30+ member chorus joined the Dance at Illinois’ dancers to move and sing as we contemplated the difference between listening to and acting on “the whisper” of spirit guidance instead of waiting until we are delivered “the shout.” The work was accompanied by a live band and rousing gospel music.
Performed by Kimber Andrews, Alitra Cartman, Paige Cunningham, Tess Dworman, Megan Dye, Catherine Hamilton, Hsin-Yi Hsiang, Angeline Holmes, Kimberly McCarthy, Vienna Willems, and Amanda Pesch (understudy)
