Corpus Againstus

November 2009

I originally made Corpus Againstus as Nick Wagner’s senior solo. We were asked to include it in the mainstage production at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts that year. Working collaboratively, Nick and I talked about his coming out. We talked about associated situations, feelings, sounds, behaviors and metaphors. I wanted to collect those and arrange them in a non-linear, repetitive structure that mirrored what the experience may have felt like for him to negotiate with humor and sensitivity a part of the mix. This was the first work I made for a male-identified person.
